UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW

The Uefa Champions League draw for 2004/2005 has thrown up some interesting groups at the gala function in Monaco.

The 32 teams were divided into eight groups of four with no single country allowed to have two teams in the same group.

Premiership champions Arsenal have been placed in Group E alongside Panathinaikos,PSV Eindhoven and  Rosenborg, while FA Cup champions Manchester United face Lyon, Sparta Prague and Fenerbache in Group D.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho's bid to reclaim the coveted European club trophy he won with FC Porto last season will be intesting as he needs to get past his former team in the initial group stages first.

Liverpool, who scraped through to the group stages after losing their second-leg qualifier to AK Graz on Wednesday, will go into battle against Deportivo, Monaco and Olympiakos in Group A.

Other British team Celtic have been placed in a tricky group alongside Barcelona, AC Milan,and FC Shakhtar, where the Scottish champions would need to play well to in order advance to the second round.

Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have bolstered their squad with England duo Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate in the summer, were drawn with Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and Dynamo Kiev.

Group C has also been labelled the 'Group of Death' as European giants Bayern Munich, Juventus, Ajax all find themselves grouped alongside Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Group A: Deportivo,Liverpool,Monaco and Olympiakos

Group B: Real Madrid,Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and Dynamo Kiev

Group C: Bayern Munich, Juventus, Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv

Group D: Manchester United,Lyon, Sparta Prague and Fenerbache

Group E: Arsenal, Panathinaikos, PSV Eindhoven and Rosenborg

Group F: Barcelona, AC Milan, Celtic and FC Shakhtar

Group G: Valencia,Inter Milan,Anderlecht and Werder Bremen

Group H: FC Porto, Chelsea, PSG and CSKA Moscow
